Advice for removing/dimming streetlight

Hey all. I'll just start with saying I'm not too strong in PS yet (using CS3) so I'm looking for a little advice on how to somewhat fix pictures like below.

I know I can't fully get rid of it, since some of the pictures the light pole is in the middle of the fireworks, but is there any ideas on how to dim it some?

(Preface: this was not a planned shooting area. I shot another show the night before and we were going to this one just to enjoy. I decided to pull out the camera anyways. Normally I wouldn't set up near a light like that)

Is this what your goal is? Very easy, I duplicated the layer, set the blend mode to "Multiply"...Let me know if this is it, before I type up all the details.

that's pretty much what I was looking for. I'm not as worried about the people below (some of those may be cropped anyway). It's more the light from the lamp post.

The ones you've done have dimmed the light which is good. I know I can't get rid of the light, at least not the ones inside the blasts, but what you did minimizes it well. In the ones outside the blast I may be able to get rid of completely.

Actually, in the first one I really like the lamp and the light it's throwing on the people, makes it interesting.

Nice shots. Just think of the streetlights as extra fireworks . If you really want to remove the streetlight, use a clean portion of your image, copy it to a new layer, then mask the ugly parts.

Here is a rather crappy edit, but it'll show you what I mean.
