Thought I'd share a few underwater pics from our holiday to Taba Heights, Egypt. All taken while snorkelling using a powershot A640 in canon housing.

It was my first attempt at underwater photography and thanks mainly to the good advice I received on this forum and a bit of luck I managed to get quite a few shots I was pleased with (certainly better than I expected)!

The rest are on flickr (external link)

Looks like you did a great job, especially on the last one....

Some of them look somewhat undersaturated, but I guess that's down to a lack of flash-power. Must have been quite an experience for you. Well done.

Thanks, it was an amazing experience, especially seeing the turtle... I didn't use flash on any of them as they were only at snorkelling depth, the saturation problem is probably down to my inexperience in pp'ing underwater pics. I seem to lose something between the hi-res tiff versions and compressed online versions!

I am very impressed! The Sea Turtle shots and the Octopus are excellent. Looks like great water clarity and these are better than what I get with my G7 underwater. Well done for a first effort.

I photograph to find out what something will look like photographed.

Those look great! I have an A640 as well - this has got me thinking about hitting up the local dives around here too!

I especially like the turtle action :D

Thanks you... the turtle was one the highlights of the holiday as we really didn't expect to see one while snorkelling but on the penultimate day we saw that one leisurely flapping along pretty close to shore. The octopus was fascinating to watch as well, their ability to camouflage themselves is amazing

I agree. The turtle shots are just great. I thought the first one was my favorite until I saw the second one.
