What bags do you use for body+100-400?

I've decided to get a decent bag for my 100-40. The local camera store has a bewildering variety of bags. A Lowepro slingshot 200 and another Lowepro one (Fastpack 300 I think) seemed to be the best ones.

Is the Slingshot 200 big enough? I'd be carrying the 100-400 on a 400D body, with a small standard lens, perhaps a compact, pocket binoculars plus the inevitable spare batteries, memory card etc. Fast access to the camera is most important.

What do people on the forum use?

I use a Lowepro Primus. The 100-400 on body fits tightly with hood reversed, but fits. It even fits with a TC... Quick access is ensured through a side pocket.

Thanks DDA.

I've just noticed another possibility. The Lowepro Toploader 70AW or 75AW. These look like they may fit my needs more...........

Okay, really quick, do you have a grip on the body?

I have a 200aw and really like it, but I can't fit the 100-400 in on a 1D body (well, not without reconfiguring it and losing the advantage of being able to get it out without fully opening the bag, and even then I'm not sure it would fit), I doubt it would fit even with a smaller body. There is a 300aw available if you really need to be able to fit the lens and body in a bag, but I like the size of the 200 and tend to just carry the 100-400 separately as it's not a lens I use all the time, ymmv.

I love my Tenba Shootout (backpack).

It holds the 40D, 5D w/grip, 100-400 and a few other lenses quite easily. It's a great backpack.

My 40D/100-400 (no grip) fits fine in my Lowepro MiniTrekker AW. I can also cram my 70-200 in there if I wanted to (as well as all my other gear listed in my signature), but it gets tight. Generally, if I'm going to use my 100-400, the 70-200 stays home so it's not that big of a deal.

For a combo like that I have used the Lowepro Topload Zoom AW, Toploader 75 AW, Slingshot 300, Fastpack 350, Flipside 300, and the Mini Trekker.

Carry all my gear in the Lowepro Nova 5. The 20D with 100-400 and hood will lay across the bag and it can be zipped that way if you want.

I have the Kata R-102 and love it. It holds that combo just fine with room for my 70-200, 17-55, 50mm, and 430EX. May be a bit bigger then you are looking at, but that just gives you a good reason to go buy more lens right? They also have a R-101 but don't know anything about what it will hold.

With the 20D + 100-400, what else can you fit in the bag?

I think the Kata H-14 would be prime!

Because I knew I would need to either fit 2 camera bodies with 2 lenses attached, or the 40D with 70-200 2.8 IS and the 100-400 in one bag, I bought the Domke F-802, which was recommended by Jon. It is a great bag, looks like a regular briefcase, but so easy to get stuff out when needed. It is my most used bag now. Fits a nice flash in there, too.
