Im looking at picking up 2 more lenses next week. Right now Ive got my eyes set on the 70-200F4L IS to handle the telephoto end of things.

Anyone got some suggestions for a good fast wide lens? I cant afford 2 l's ho...

Define good, fast, and wide. ;) Oh and also how much you would like to spend.

but without knowing all that. I'll suggest the Canon 28mm 1.8 or the Sigma 30mm 1.4.

Well my overall budget is a flexable $1500. Ive been eyeing the 30mm 1.4 tho focus issues scare me...

Pretty much anything 2.8 and up is fast enough. Im pretty happy with my 50mm 1.8, tho I wouldnt mind having better AF performance. At the same time I think a wider prime might just be the ticket. But Im seeing all kinds of primes from 20mm to 35mm and not sure which would be the best for me. So $450~ for the 2nd lens?

if you have $450 and are looking for something wide, i would highly recommend the tamron 17-50. i love it! it's really sharp, but i find that the colours are a little flat, so need to be adjusted a bit.

don't be scared of getting a sigma 30mm. i have one and am very happy with it...

The Sigma is the best buy in that range. The focus issue is over hyped, just like most things on the net.

Thats good to hear :)

Ive been reading reviews at FM and cyclin thru the archive here, I think Im in love hehe.

Im just anxiously awaiting my stimulus check, then Im ordering. the 70-200 is the big want in my eyes, Im just worried it will have me reject my other lenses and Ill be bit by the L bug! I cant quite afford the 25-70 and the 70-200, so a fast prime is a good compromise in my eyes :D

hmm, I'm confused. Are you looking to move to a pure 2 lens setup (get rid of your 18-55, 50 1.8 and 28-105), or are you looking to move add two MORE lenses to you existing setup.

For a 400D, there is a no better two lens setup in my opinion than a 17-55 f/2.8 IS and 70-200 f/2.8 IS. I could argue that combo would be able to take 90% of what you desired. If you have to have a 3rd lens, adding a fast prime (30/50/85mm) to those two lenses would add more flexibility, but you could get by without.

how about the Tamron 17-50 + Canon 70-200 f4 L (with or without IS, depending on your budget)? if you want something faster for your tele-zoom, maybe the Sigma 70-200 2.8 EX DG macro or the Tamron 70-200 2.8...

I think I'd be plenty happy with f4 and is, I don't shoot sports so 2.8 isn't needed.

I've thought about the 17-55is, but even using my 18-55 I hate its range. If ima go wide I'm gonna go with a 10-22 or 11-16.

For now I'm going to keep my lenses, tho I think I may eventually sell all 3 to possibly add a 50mm 1.4 or make the jump to a 24-70L. 30 and 50 account for 75% of my shooting according to exposure plot.

for your budget, I highly recommend the tokina 11-16 and the EF 24-70L this will give you roughly 11-70mm with f/2.8 and insane imagequality

I use the Tamron 17-50/2.8 along with 70-200/4 IS. I'm more than happy with their performance.
