I picked up some triggers, lightstands, an umbrella and another flash on the way home from work today :D.

I had an sb22 before, and picked up an sb20 for 40 bucks.

sadly, the sb22's PC port stopped working, so i only have one flash right now. i think im going to get a viv 285 though.

heres one of the first shots i've done off camera. i wish i had the second flash to put behind her, and i wish i hadn't blown the highlights, but i like it :)

#1 is fun. I hope you told her that her face might just freeze like that. :):) The second one is very nice. Thanks for sharing

Not bad, good for a first try, but the flash is a bit obvious for me. My suggestion is to meter the background better and expose it one stop under, you're probably two stops under there, it's a bit dark for my taste. Then use flash to expose the subject properly.

i didn't think those kinds of pics could be taken with one flash, but then again i know nothing about photography. And how do you use a nikon flash with a 40D? with a remote? This is not getting any easier. sigh.

Yes, a wireless receiver and transmitter such as the pocket wizard or skyport.

You can use any flash you want as long as you have all the ports and what nots you need to plug into the PW or skyport.

Off-camera flash is fun and interesting.

:)

I really like the drastically underexposed backgrounds in comparison with the properly exposed subject personally. Just in general. It's not right for every picture, but I like the style when it works. I think these work.

Nice lawn by the way.

Are you sure it was not the PC cable that stopped working? The male PC connector can be very flaky.

Enjoy! Lon
