US Open (Tennis) Camera Restrictions

Does anyone happen to know what the camera restrictions are for the US Open in August/September? I've been searching but haven't been able to find policy and I have a zoom lens that I would love to bring.

Don't they usually have some information once you receive your tickets??
I know in the U.K you usually get the restrictions for camera gear at the event around the same time..

Nope. Nothing.

How big is your zoom? A 70-200L? If so it's pretty much hit and miss. Really depends on the checker. A lot of people have suggested that the white pro lens are usually not allowed in so most people try to hide it. The suggestion I got was to get a hip bag (since you are not allowed backpacks then hide the lens at the bottom with some stuff on top). Once you are in...you're in.

Like has been said a thousand times here, it doesn't matter a bit what anyone on this or any other board tells you - go to the US Open web site and look.

Since still cameras are not mentioned, this usually means anything that will fit inside the aforementioned bag size is cool, as long as you don't interfere with other fans and that the pictures are for personal use.

However, it is strongly recommended that you contact them BEFORE showing up with your gear, as no bag check will be available and if the security person decides you can't bring your gear in, you'll have to return it to your vehicle or to paid storage lockers, neither are good options in my book.

I've never shot the US Open professionally, but the other USTA/ATP events I have shot, "pro" gear required working press credentials. Call the number above and ask.

I am probably going to attend the practice sessions at the Open. I went before, and you get really good access to the players.

I saw the policies too and it's a little vague.

I am planning on bringing my 1DMKIII and 70-200 (or 100-400) as well.

Hopefully I'll get in.

(Where is a black EF 70-300 IS when you need one?:lol

Thanks all for your posts. I'll try calling them this week and see what they say - (and report back). Hopefully they let in a 70-200L or a 100-400L.
