I dropped my camera a couple times and it had survived until one day I realize (not right after the drop) there's some loose part. When I shake it there's a noise like something is loose inside. I turned it on and it turned on fine.. but about a minute or 2 after that it just died. The LCD (external link) went out and there's no sign of life. The zoom lens (external link) is in an extending position. I reseat/replace the battery but it didn't help.. It's completely dead - no power. So I tried to take it apart but seems like the front cover doesn't want to come off. In the process, I shook the camera and 2 screws fell off (no more noise when I shake it) but I have no idea where they came from.. I would like to get a disassembly guide or instructions to see if I can find where the screws belong. Any suggestions?

I'd say those drops may have hastened your S30's demise. Remember, it's not the fall that hurts, just the sudden stop at the end! I'm sure Canon could repair it & I think you can even get a quote from their website. They also have some sort of trade-in program they'll tell you about if you call the support line (in the USA at least).

f/8 & be there . . .
