Is the 2 feet of the OC-E3 really enough to accomplish that? I dont wanna be going to the last inch of the cord every time, wearing it out, and eventually breaking it.

If you really stretch it, it can get to 3 feet, so it's long enough for me. But I don't shoot like that often.

It is long enough for hand-holding an off-camera strobe. It's really only intended to be used for brackets and such, though...

It's long enough for flash brackets, holding it in one hand or macro type stuff. If you really need any sort've distance, wireless E-TTL (via another flash or ST-E2) is a good solution, as are RadioPoppers (a third-party solution). If you don't need to maintain E-TTL then there's a whole list of alternative solutions.

As mentioned above, the OC-E3 is designed to get the flash off of the camera. For almost anyone this means off of the camera and on to a flash bracket. It would be a pretty odd bracket that required that the flash be more than 2-3 feet from the camera's hot shoe terminal. This cable has been re-designed and made much more durable than the old cable, so you won't have any trouble with its being stretched too much with most brackets.
