You guys/gals know the deal....

Your friends know you're a "photographer" and expect you to know EVERYTHING about photography!

Just received an email from a friend wanting to get a fixed lens 35mm for his wife.

He wants an Olympus IS-50 QD, but it seems none can be found.

I haven't touched a film body in over 20 years and have no clue what to suggest to him.

I did an hour's worth of searching for "fixed lens 35mm" and came up with bupkis(sp?)

I don't believe she wants interchangeable lenses; I would have suggested the 35mm Rebel in that case ;)

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Tom D

Get him a cheap used Rebel film body and crazy-glue a 50mm f/1.8 onto it.

Lots of fixed lens 35mm cameras around....look under "rangefinder". Took less than 10 seconds to find this. http://www.ph.utexas.edu/~yue/misc/rangfndr.html (external link)

First thing I'd ask is what does she want to do with it and then decide what to recommend. I mean a 350D with 24mm 2.8 is close enough if she never takes the lens off :lol:

Point him to the blister pack rack in the photo section of Wal-Mart. :D

No idea if they're legit though.

He didn't go into detail, but looking at the Olympus, it looks like a hybrid between a SLR and point & shoot...

Fixed lens with a range of zooms; I believe the Olympus has a 28-120mm (4.3x) zoom range.

Seems to have Av and those "creative" modes too....

I'm usually pretty good with searching the 'net, but just not finding anything...

Thanks again....

Ah....sorry....the way your post read, that seemed like what she was seeking...My sister-in-law has one of the models that Don posted....it works, but they recently traded it in for a 400D and a 28-135....the shutter lag was horrible...and she said she missed way too many pictures waiting for it.

There is always the S5IS....seems a fairly capable camera for that type of shooting.

Ok everyone....step back...get a cup of coffee....regroup....become one with your POTN camera straps and resynch your crystals...

She wants a 35MM not a digital!

I tried pushing the latest Rebel and 28-135 on them a while back, and I even think they have a Canon digital kit....but, for reasons not shared with me, she wants to go back to film.

I still may push a film Rebel and 28-135; I still like that lens....

Don = cdiphoto?

I'll pass the shutter lag info to my friends..

Thanks for that...
