Um I don't know, girl wearing only the bottom of a string bikini?

Folks from outside the USA have to understand that USA is very very prudish, and major corporations train everyone about sexual harrassment, and if someone sees a photo of your wife in a bikini on your desk, they have the right to voice taking offense and forcing you to have a covered neck-to-toe Victorian outfit photo of her instead, solely on the basis of the sexual harrassment policy which is founded upon someone finding something offensive! Makes sense, NOT! But it is the stupid practices of US business.

Yes, direct flash. The water fall isn't exactly close.

Oh blah, I get it now! How did you illuminate the subject though?

The setup is pretty simple.

The main light was a 640ws strobe diffused by a 3' Octodome Softbox positioned to the LEFT. To the right of the model was a reflector to bounce the spill from the Octodome and to illuminate her right portion of her body. The SINGLE 580EXII was positioned behind the reflector aimed at the waterfall.

Hope this clears up everything :)

Yeah he's making it sound like this was shot with one 580, but the picture says it wasn't.

I clearly stated the 580EXII was used to light the waterfall, not the model ;)

Here is a picture illustration. Assistant on the left is holding the positioned 580EXII with the PW mounted on top of the flash head.

That's how close the waterfall was? A Vivitar 285 would have done just as well. I know the 580EX is a great flash, but this surely doesn't prove it.

O RLY? This was just to illustrate how powerful the flash was.

My friend tried with his SB800 and it was noticable less brighter, so much had to jump the ISO up a stop. How powerful is the vivitar 285?

The Vivitar 285 is not as powerful as the 580EX... at 105mm coverage the Vivitar has GN140 rating (vs. the 580EX rating of GN197 at 105mm coverage)
OTOH the 580EX is not alone...the Metz 58MZ is as powerful. And if you realize that the Metz 45 has GN148 rating with a wider 35mm coverage angle -- about the same as the 580EX at 50mm coverage angle -- you realize the 580EX is not the king of the hill on output power!

Of course I know the 580EX isn't the king of power. Notice the two larger strobes present at the shoot ;)

You really haven't proven or illustrated how powerful the 580EX actually is.

Rather than a photo where distances are not indicated, it would be much simpler to state that with a 580EX you could shoot at ISO 100 at f/4 out to 50' at 105mm coverage, or at ISO 400 out to 98', or at ISO 1600 out to 197'.
