300mm Lens

I am looking for a new lens to purchase, however, can anyone tell me the differences between:

Canon EF 75-300 f/4-5.6 III

Sigma 70-300m f/4-5.6 DL Macro Super II

Sigma 70-300m f/4-5.6 APO DG Macro
Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro


Does that mean the canon 70-300 does not support macro ability, and also what is the difference between the sigma DL and APO?

do you have cost issues/restrictions?
Do you want a zoom....or are you using primarily for the 300 end.
Consider 300 f4 prime if long end needed only...can buy used for decent $$ Far better optically than any above!
All the zooms are not really macro..but rather close focus ability. All above eat light at the long end. Be more specific on needs if you can.

Ok, well I am not going to fork out $1000 for a lens. I've seen the prices of all these lenses, so they are all within my budget.

I would like a zoom. Not necessarily the 300 end, but a decent zoom nevertheless.

I did read up about the macro, not really being a macro, but I not into macro shots in general.

I suppose the main use for the lens would be to have a good zoom lens as I only have a kit lens atm.

Any opinions on how Sigma 70-300m f/4-5.6 APO DG Macro compares against the
Canon Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS ?

The 300mm F4 L IS is an excellent lens if you can afford it.

The Canon 70-300 would be a better zoom option.

What are you hoping to photograph with this lens?

I wanted a decent zoom lens to start out with, I've been to a few airshows, triathlons etc. and wanted something a bit better than my kit lens (17-85) - though there is absolutely nothing wrong with that lens too. That and just to get some practice of using a zoom lens.

For $500, you could get a used 70-200 f/4 or a 70-300 f/4.0-5.6 IS. For a little more, you could get either new. They are both vastly superior to the lenses you listed.

I would get the 70-200 with a 1.5 kenko Teleconverter, 70-200 f4L brand new is $560 and the 1.5 TC is $85.The 1.5 kenko does not report back to your camera so you can use the len's wide open at 300MM:p.Sean .L
