Had a chance to shoot my friend's ///M. He wanted to do a night shoot like I did previously for another friend so we shot in front of my house around 11pm. I had him park near one of the street lights which was a mistake with a white car. Everything came out yellow so I had to color correct in PS. Guess I should of done a custom WB before we started.

Main light was quantum (bare bulb)and I filled in with some 580's. I also tried light painting on the first two side profile shots. First time using this technique and need to practice more. Results could have been better.

As always c&c welcome.

Thanks for looking.

Higher res pics can be viewed on my flickr:

1) Light painted here using two 580's. My friend held one and I held the other. We over exposed the rear of the car so I burned it but now it looks dull. I tried adjusting the exposure but it made the rest of the car too dark. Any ideas on what I should have done in this case in PS other than getting it right in camera?

2) Light painted here as well. This one came out a little better. Still a little over exposed.

Did you use several shots to make the first to images or did you use a long shutter speed and shot your flash from several positions? I really like them! Specially # 1

I really like #3 and #5 except that the car is a little to centered.

I used a long shutter (20-30 sec) with my camera on a tripod and just walked around the car with the flash and manually triggered it. I wish I didn't over expose the rear of #1 so much. It would of came out much better.

Love #3 & #5

For number 1, if you have the RAW for it, try adjusting highlights and lights under levels.

The first one is my favorite. My only comment (aside from what you've already said about the blown highlights) is that I wish the camera had been a bit higher so that the entire car would be surrounded by street.

I like the potential in that shot. Try a Layer Mask for easy local changes. Post #9:

question, as i'm gonna start experimenting with these types of shots:

how did you manually trigger the 580s?

Those are nice shots, BTW.

As everyone else says.. #3 is killer.

I would have liked #1 a lot better if there were less of an area with blown out'ness. If you take the RAW file and down the exposure, you should be able to capture the shadows that were lost in the blown out area. Take the photo and place it over (in a layer) the high res file of the final pic you have posted here and use the brush eraser to blend in the shadows with the finalized picture. If you need help, you can PM me and send me the RAW file.

3 and 5 are great, but I'd crop the bottom 1/4 off ...

Canon XTi / 55-250mmIS / NiftyFifty / 75-300mm / 430EX II / hopefully a whole lotta luck
