I just came across this... some incredible photos of some of the fires. (Can I share this in this forum?). http://www.boston.com …ias_continuing_fires.html (external link)

The one of the tanker dropping retardant near the house gave me goosebumps.

That's some outstanding photojournalism...

(The lastest issue of Nat Geo has a good article on western wild fires as well...)

Amazing photos. Here in the central valley we're mostly just under the cover of smoke, but we've had a few smaller fires as well.

We're in the foothills south of Placerville.. very smokey here too. .. but still feel lucky with no significant fires (so far). We have friends in Concow. .. she had to evacuate w/the horses & dogs at 2am on the 8th.. and he stayed to fight for their place. After 4 days, he's exhausted.. and is almost out of gas for the generator (for the well/water). Before they closed the roads to the news crews, someone shot this photo of him. http://chicoer.mycapture.com …event=552925&CategoryID=0 (external link)

Every home between their place and the road (6.5 miles out) has been burned to the ground. .. All roads are closed now. ... so if he can hang in there one more day, might be able to save their place. There are a total of four guys.. home owners back there who, so far, have been able to save their homes.
