I had a cilantro plant on my window sill that was apparently taken over by spider mites. Before tossing it, I thought I'd try to take a few pix of some of the critters. These things are the size of a pinhead (or smaller) and are tough to see, much less photograph. I didn't have an MP-E65 (which would've been nice) but I did have a homemade reversed old manual 50mm lens setup which let me get amazingly close. I just wish it had better glass.
I did try my 100mm with the full set of Kenko tubes plus the 24 from Canon, and I still didn't get the magnification I did with the reversed 50 and a homemade extension/mount.
Here are a few of the shots. If you've never seen what a spider mite looks like up close, now you can. C&C welcome!
This first one has not been cropped at all. The others have been slightly cropped.
And one showing what I believe is an ex-spider mite resting peacefully in his woven web of a home complete with water and food bits all around.
