Contre jour photo's

As a rather newbe I never knew there was so much to learn about taking photo's.
Got a 300D for my birthday wit 18-55 kitlens. I really enjoy taking photo's.
Especially landscape is great.
As i like to take photo's contre jour because the lightning is so nice, I often have overexposed photo's or photo's with the sun that totally burns the sky.

I wonder what technique you can use to tackle my problems.

I enclosed a photo of a frozen landscape that I really liked. but I'm not totally satisfied about.
Wonder what advice you can give me with regard to my photo and question.

What does "contre jour" mean?

french to english Mac's Sherlock translation "against day"

Judging by the question and the picture Contre jour means "facing the sun" maybe.
Asking how to shoot into the sun and not lose contrast and get hotspots.

A "contre jour" is simply a sunset photo.Now go with the answers.

Nice photo, but I can see heavy posterisation (banding) in the sky, in the top left part of the image.

Did you edit this as an 8 bit per pixel (JPEG) image and did you do any editing on it (stretched the contrast, etc.)?

Also, it doesn't look really sharp.

Maybe you can post (a link to) the original photo (not edited, directly from the memory card) and ask people to edit it for you, and tell you what they've done.
