made this from 3 images. used photomatix to generate HDR. then "auto color" in photoshop.

It is very nice, but it looks a bit too much like a painting for my taste...

It looks almost like a painting. Great shot!

I think a little work (desaturation?) needs to be done on the foreground - it looks almost neon. The background is beautiful.

Nice composition, but it does look a bit soft or noisy.

I think you lost all the color of the rock with HDR.

thanks for all the comments. i agree that it looks kinda soft/ blurry/ noisy. the originals were crisp. i think i lost some info with HDR. i desaturated a little like a member suggested and got this. is this any better?

I would like to see the original too, just to compare. I can't quite put my finger on what's wrong, unless the 3 images didn't align or were processed a little differently, maybe one pixel bigger. It should look sharper. :)

Well, I see now why they call it Yellowstone. I have only done a few HDR images before, but I think the mist in the air is going to cause the problem. Just my guess.

im thinking out loud. 2 possible reasons.

1. eventhough i used a tripod, there was probably little shake when i changed the shutter speed, which caused mis-alignment and hence the soft/noisy look

2. the software i used messed up something or i missed an option that supposed to correct it.

i really wish the resulting HDR was crisper.
