finally purchased the 40D, my first DSLR
got it along with the 18-55IS, 55-250IS and 50f/1.8
from adorama with some warranties, lowepro 200aw, a protective filter, and a 4gig sandisk extremeIII card for about $1735 shipped
but im still mad because today they changed that the 55-250 is on backorder, and its like that on B&W also so now im not sure when ill recieve it, and thats the main lens i wanted:(

any tips for newbies?
also, i was wondering about hoods for my lenses, at least for the 55-250? i couldnt find any for that lens

I just got mine in the mail from B & H today along with the 28-135 IS USM lens, 50mm f/1.8, 430EX flash, and a bunch of accessories. I have been having a good time with it today and can't wait to take it out tomorrow. Looking forward to the 40D Crash Course DVD's to arrive in the mail now. *S* :D

I would definately suggest a hood for all the lenses that you plan on using for longer periods of time. Definately get one for the 18-55 if that's yoru walkaround lenses and you'll probably get one for the 55-250.

Your next bet will probably to invest in a decent tripod.

Congrats and welcome to the club.

I wonder how popular of a camera the 40D is.

Congrats on your new toys and I only have one tip. Get out there and shoot something. :) Actually, I also find that bringing the manual alone until you learn the controls is a good thing to do as well. Sometimes what I will do is choose a specific feature, like live view, and go out there and shoot nothing but live view shots, referring back to the manual, trying the different setting and such until I get comfortable. The next time I'll choose something else.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

would a lens hood like this fit on any of my lenses since they are all 58mm lenses, or does each lense have to have a certain special type of hood or w/e
and what do you think a good hood type is for paintball, a crown hood, or that whole cover type hood
