Black bar on eBay slaves at 1/250

So mine used to sync at 1/250 just fine. Never tried syncing higher than that. I've heard of people syncing at 1/500. Now all of a sudden I can only sync at 1/200. Time for new batteries for the trigger and receivers?

This is being shot on an XTi using both a Vivitar 285HV and a Sunpak 544 on full power.

(can't wait until I get my pocket wizards)

Be happy you are getting 1/160, many people report much slower sync speeds than that.

If you were getting 1/250, then yes, fresh batteries would be a good idea.

No, not time for new batteries, time to read the manual.

The specifications here indicate that 1/200 second is the maximum X-sync speed for the Xti

But, the difference between 1/200 second and 1/250 second is mostly a marketing shell game anyway.

You would not be able to sync at 1/500 second with pocket wizard.

A maximum X-sync speed of 1/200 second is actually pretty good.

1/200th is what the 5D does.

Unless you are going to a 1D classic, you'll only be able to get 1/250s with that as well. The 1D classic will sync at 1/500s while the rest of the 1 series line syncs at 1/250s. Not sure on the MKIII though.

1/250 second X-sync speed is state of the art for mechanical focal plane shutters about this size.

I think there may be one or two 35mm SLR or DSLR cameras with a mechanical focal plane shutter with an X-sync speed of 1/300 second .

But again, the practical difference between 1/200 and 1/250 second X-sync speed is mostly just marketing claptrap, not some sort of fundimental usability issue. It is only 1/3 of a stop. High quality shutter are often less accurate than 1/3 of a stop.
