Picked up a couple of new pieces of hardware and I figured I'd use this meet to test them out. Thursday was the Concours D'Elegance and I won't post the pictures from that day on here since it's more on line with transportation.

Today was the track day, here are some pics I took:

C&C please. None of these are cropped. I used a 70-200 and a 120-300 with a 1.4TC at the track. ISO ranged from anywhere between 100 to 500. Shutter speed was anywhere between 1/80 to 1/200.

Those Ferrari's really get around North America, I had the pleasure of shooting the blue and red one from #1 down here in Florida.

On a sunny to partly-cloudy day, I don't think your ISO should be above 100. I'm sorry to say that most of these could be much better in terms of focus composition, contrast and noise.

Practice, practice, practice! Overall, I think this is a good effort for your first time out. ;)

If I see my aperture opening up too much, I'm bumping the ISO :)

1 & 4 I'm not too happy with. No clue what happened on the AF on 1, 4 was just a newbie mistake; focused on the back end of the car instead of the front :(

But I do agree, all of those could be better :)

Wrong answer on this. I was looking at that picture and thinking how great it looked. It is different, but I like it. In my opinion, the @$$ of the Ferrari's are the best looking part of the car. Great shot in my book.

The multi car shots are always great... BUT... you can't clip the second car. When you find a corner with the opportunity for a couple of cars to come through together, study the entry and exit of the apex to improve your chances of stacking the cars up without clipping the nose or tail off. (As in your fourth image.. turn 1 I think.)

The first image is a great location... but look at the space to the left of the first car.... then see how you've clipped the second car. This is a great corner ... great background and always good action there. I like the low angle you got.

Which leads me to last suggestion... you've got a lot of stuff here that looks down at the cars... not always the best angle. Try to bring the viewer's eye down to track level... getting down with the car is much more exciting. It's the same photo trick of shooting kids... get down on their level.

Good work... keep at it.

They seem to have a yellow cast to them. At least on a calibrated monitor the grass has a strong yellow to it.

nice shots, 8 would be my favorite if you had all of both cars in the shot. Any F40s there?

Didn't see the F40 at the track; even at the concours d'elegance there was only one there.

Thanks for every single one of your comments guys :) Going to keep working on it. (and calibrate my monitor :) )

Hey Cryril,

You confused me with the title. I was like what did I miss in Toronto! :D

I love the Ferrari 333SP but just a bit too bright, I think its the grass throwing it off.

I also like the F1 nose. I saw you do a shot like that on your facebook page with the rear of a car (Can't for the life of me remember which car) which I really liked to. I tried doing something like that with some of the Can Am cars but there was too much action around them so I got a lot people in the reflections.

Good Work. Will you be working at the ALMS Weekend?

I'm talking to Keith and see if I can tag along with the aim boys for the weekend if I don't have anything going on. Do a photo-journalistic thing for them so they can put some Mazda stuff on their site. (It's soooo heavily DP based right now) So hopefully I have that to get me into the pits for their sessions.

If not, I'll just pay for general admissions and shoot the whole weekend.

You referring to my R8 rear end shot with the Viper GT in the bokeh?

Was so bummed I missed the vintage weekend :( But I was even more bummed because of why I missed it. We'll go for beers during ALMS weekend :)

Well,

Our Uranus Racing Bus will be on the backstraight so stop by any time I will pm you a pic of it. I used the motorhome roof to shoot some shots during the vintage weekend. The vintage weekend was neat to see some really cool cars I hadn't seen in a while. Its too bad the weekend ended the way it did.

I am glad the Aim boys got a Mazda running this year but its too bad you moved on before they got the program running. I know the boys are toying with the idea of having 2 dp's by next season at least.

& Yea it was the R8 & Viper (Had to jump on facebook to confirm).

(Decided To Post The Pic Of The Bus)

I would have loved the last one if it was at ground level.

Good shots Cyril, I see you're breaking the new Sigma in nicely :)

#1 looks good, I just wish it wasn't clipped off at the rear of the 2nd car :( The photos seem a bit blown out to me as well, I reloaded my laptop colour profile to make sure it was proper and I'm still getting a rather light red/pink hue on the reds on track and some yellow hue on the grass.

#3 is nice but if you move a bit more left towards the hill you can get real low and shoot through the fence looking up at the car and having the Mobil1 sign as your backdrop.

Keep up the good work, I called Mosport about the Ferrari event but they didn't really provide much information aside from "it's a private event" so I passed on it. Are you attending the Super Bikes this weekend? Gotta dust off the 40D's and get ready to track those little buggers :)

There used to be Canon gear here but it disappeared.

I'm going to superbikes; as early as tomorrow if weather holds.

That sigma won't be in my possession for long I'm sad to say. Less than happy with the AF.

I usually don't call Mosport about events; I just show up :D Never had any issues with the guys at the gate.
