The gear I plan on taking is my 40d, Sig 10-20; canon 17-55; 55-250; flash, cards, batteries, gorilla pod; maybe a couple of filters.

I would alike a bag that will hold all the above gear for the flight. When walking the streets of NYC, I will only carry 2 of the 3 lenses at any given time. I would also like to have room to carry cell phone, wallet, etc.

I would like something secure, but with easy access and as comfortable as possible.

I've been looking at MDH's and can't decide between 6 or 7. Also thought about slingshot.

Please help....

They're pretty secured as they are hard just to slip your hand into. The 6MDH should be fine as the 7MDH be just way to large to wander around NYC.

I second the 6 mil. Plus it looks like a messenger bag which everyone and their mama carries in nyc so you won't stick out like a sore thumb. The kata bags are among the best protection you can get which would be great for the hustle and bustle of nyc, but i am only familiar with the holster models which would not have enough room for all you wish to carry.

If you have a Costco membership, I saw a whole bin of Lowepro sling bags for $64 and was going to snatch one up. The reason why a sling bag is so useful in the city is that you never have to put the bag down to get anything out. You can carry in front or in back. I have the Velocity 9X and it's a beautiful bag.

I am going to NYC this summer and I am planning on bringing the Velocity 9X and my Domke F-802. The Domke bag looks like a regular messenger bag, so that's really easy to carry.

Thanks Suzie!

I was considering a sling bag, but have never seen one and really didn't know which one I should get. I really like the idea of not having to put it down or take it off to access the contents.

You can easily get your gear out of the Domke F series bags no matter what. They are shoulder bags. But it can be heavy on your shoulder and back. Jon and I go out all the time and he carries his heavy Domke and is fine. If I carried that much stuff, I'd be in physical therapy for a month! I like my old Velocity 9 better than the 9X just because the stupid zipper only goes one way. Why they didn't do dual zippers makes me crazy. But it's a great bag. I will be only taking my 17-40 and 24-70 and 85 1.8 to NY. If I take the 100-400, it would have to go with some other bag, as I can't carry all of that all day. But less is more. I once took my 20D and 50 1.4 and almost cried. I wish I had my 17-40. Need wide, not long.

We are only going to be in the city for 2 days before going on a cruise to halifax. Trying to cram as much as possible in those 2 days so there will be lots of walking. I definitely don't want to be in pain!

I searched for the velocity 9x and it came up as Tamrac. Is that right?

Yes, Tamrac. All Lowepro, Tamrac bags are good. But the Domke bags are canvas and very sturdy.

F802 probably. But honestly Crumpler is an amazing bag in itself. Plus I know from experience the material is somewhat weather resistant. More so than a weather sealed camera but less than waterproof. In Florida you're kinda forced to find that out.
