I recently got a 1DMkii, and have tried both my own Metz flash, and a 580EX, and am unable to set either flash ti ETTL - the CF for ETTL2 is set to evaluative.
Anyone have any ideas?

Is it TTL? If so, remove the flash from the camera and see if it goes back to ETTL mode. If that's the case, then that means that one or more of your flash pins is not making electrical contact with the pins in the hotshoe. Try cleaning the hotshoe contacts. If that doesn't help, then you might have a case where the hotshoe is coming loose off the body and needs to be tightened down again. See this thread for more info. ...Leo
