Cracks in the blacktop, light posts in the background, parking stripes...where does it all end?!?

When you find a better location? ;)

the second one looks better to me. The first and third look a bit over sharpened. The light pole does not bother me as much as the cross looking like it is growing out of the hood.

Interesting, maybe your monitor is much better than mine. They were all sharpened at the same time after flattening.

I've edited the text re: Image #7-9 as there's too many distractions. I think I'll make an image without a background to illustrate the point.

Thanks for all the comments, though. I'll get this right yet.

Are you going to have another thread/rant called "CROUCH DOWN"? You're also shooting a challenging color that likes to reflect everything around it.

I see now what you were trying to illustrate. I guess most of us were looking for the little things. Sorry
After your edit the third is ideal, it has room at the front for the car to move into.

Image #7-9 has been replaced. Let's see if this one works better. My fault. I figured that most of you guys were just razzing me, anyway. :D

Are you going to have another thread/rant called "CROUCH DOWN"?

I have to leave something for you guys to do. I'll see that you get paid triple what I get!

You're also shooting a challenging color that likes to reflect everything around it.

That's a bad thing to illustrate reflections? Maybe I'm missing your point.
Pro Tip: If you want a car to almost always look good without too much thinking beforehand, get a silver one. ;)

Yeah, tell that to the people at the car shows!

Oh, a car show! Well, just think about how much better your PP techniques will be when you're done?

Another tip: Some of these guys will move the car if you BS with them a bit beforehand. This guy was actually grateful that someone wanted to get some shots of it:

Frank, if I got paid half of what you do for taking pics I'd be a happy camper. :(

Well, that was a joke as Mods don't get paid, and on a yearly basis, I don't get much for shooting cars, either. Most of these car guys are retired, get free shots from the "Cruisn' News" every year, & think $20 for a print is extravagant!

If you missed it in the "Tips" thread, don't feel that you need to sharpen everything. Try using a selection before sharpening:

I caught flak on the first image in the UBNXOUS Beast! part #2. thread because I went too far & didn't notice it at the time, so be careful to look closely at it after you've sharpened.

I have a little saying for static car shots.

"Shuffle to the left - shuffle to the right - stand up - kneel, sit, lay-down - light, light light!

I would use a circular polarizer to control the reflections off a dark colour car. Wouldn't that be so much easier.

Sing it to "Do the Hokey Pokey!" :D

A CP only works for one axis of light. What you might gain in one part of the car, you lose something in another area. I don't use one for cars, but try it both ways & see what you like best. And polarizers usually make the late model headlight plastic covers show a "rainbow", and I can do without that.

OTOH, if you plan on making one image out of several different shots with different settings of the CP, then it might be an option if/when you just have to shoot a crappy location with crappy light & busy reflections everywhere.

Let's talk CPL Filter - Using It - Which One - Related to cars

You've taught me a lesson!
I'm a good photographer. I've learned to look corner to corner to make sure that all those objects I don't want aren't in the photo.
I need to do that with prints I view too...

Thanks for your Woodward thread. Truly enjoyed it.

ps I know it's an old thread! Very helpful for me today.

I'm glad you found something useful in it, Dave. It's the simple little things that make a big difference, & I was always amazed that people actually wanted to pay me to do this for them.

I cleaned up the image a bit & re-cropped it to put more attention on the car.
