Camera used was a Canon EOS 20D, first 3 pics were taken with the 50mm f/1.8 and the last was with the kit lens

Liked the shots.
Only complaint, and its a small one, shot three, w/out the 'guys' it'd been better.
But all in all I liked 'em
Wish I had the car.............

pretty good, the reflections could use some work...thats the hardest part about automotive photography...

black cars are also insanely challenging to shoot...

Nice. :D

I agree about losing the two guys... actually that shot is the weakest of them, shooting a dark car against a light sky is never going to work that well and you lose a lot to shadows.

A couple of suggestions for next time. 1) Turn the wheels for head on shots and 2) try shooting the car with it's lights on.

Good work!

#3 would have been better without those guys in background
anways good work

Funny, I read an article in SCC, and they were saying that if you own a black car you would have the hardest time getting into the magazine.
Apparently they hate to photography Black cars.

I've read the same in Hot Rod magazine :D

Nice shots. For the automotive aspect of it, I'd try them again with a Circular Polarizer and play with it until the reflections are at an absolute minimum (not completely gone - they add some texture).

From a non-automotive photographic standpoint, I like the one with the guys in it... it sort of adds a "story" to the whole thing, and the car isn't really the focus (no pun intended) of the picture.

Were you trying to contrast the car with the background? I'd expect to see something like a pickup there. Try a more 'romantic' setting. Warm, late light.
You have the right idea on the lighting - no direct sunlight, but need to get away from an area that puts annoying reflections in the side. Sometimes you can't, but if it's a friends car, you have the option of going anywhere you want, no?
Pics #1 3, & 4 : roll up the drivers window.

1) Turn the wheels for head on shots and 2) try shooting the car with it's lights on.

Yes. Sometimes you need to go for about a 4 sec exposure & have someone in the car flash the lights for about 1 second. On a car like that, you can probably get the same effect just by hitting the remote 'unlock' button at about the 3rd second.
Replace the license plate with a gray-black card, or maybe one that says "Infinity".
Show us the new pics! ;-)a
