Yesterday I was bumming around in different stores looking at photo equipment when I ran into a display of Sandisk compact flash cards. The store was a Best Buys store.
They had the Ultra III 30mb. Professional cards. I was looking to find an 8 gig. card for an up coming trip to Sitka, Alaska. The price on the 8 gig. cards is astronomical every place I looked.
Well, the 8 gig Ultra III's were $169 each. Right beside them was a peg that held 4 gig. Ultra III's and I was amazed to see the price! $49 each.:eek::eek:

I happily grabbed the remaining 3 cards that remained on the peg! :) I got 3 4gig. 30 mb per second Professional cards for less than I would have paid for a single 8 gig. card!:)

So, if you happen to have a Best Buy Store in your neighborhood and you need another compact flash card; you had best rush down to the store to see if you can save some Big Bucks! :)

Dick

Anyone else confused as to why there are Ultra III 30mb cards?

I'm sure you mean Extreme III 30bm/s (2008) cards... Which means that you should forget about them and get a cheaper Ultra II card. You won't need them if you have no idea what they are.

On another note, you can get Extreme III 8gb cards for 100 bucks from b&h, with a 40 dollar discount, bringing it down to just 60 bucks.

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

But they say Ultra III on the card itself? ??? :|

No, They Say Extreme III compact flash 30MB/S on the Card and The Box.

The sentence in my post you quoted was an interrogative statement, not a declarative. ;) In other words, I was asking the OP if the wording on the card says "Ultra III" or "Extreme III" because he said that it just said "Extreme III" on the box yet he referred to the cards as Ultra III.

Leo,
I'm sorry! I screwed up and typed the wrong words. The Disks are Extreme III 30 MB/s. They are Not Ultras. Sorry for the mess up!:oops::o:o

Not a biggie. I was just concerned that maybe you might have been a victim of a fake SanDisk scam although that would probably have been highly unlikely at a place like BestBuy (but you never know). That's the only reason I asked. :)

The 30MB/s is the write rate to the card.

I use the Extreme III 16 GB cards. I remember when I used to use the 1GB cards and IBM 1GB micro drives. I used to hear, "I'm not getting the 2GB cards, that's too much on one card. I'm not putting all my eggs in one basket."
I wonder how those guys are doing today with the 1GB cards.

Considering I just bought a 16GB Sandisk Extreme III for $25 after rebate and all the other Sandisk cards had crazy rebates too like they usually do, $50 for a 4GB is not even close to a good deal...

Next time OP, check with us BEFORE you buy, we'll tell you where the really good deals are!

Where'd you find that? I found an 8GB Xtreme III for $25 after rebate.

As for how many photos fit on a card, only 375 RAW files according to the LCD on my 50D!

I just paid $50.00 for 3 Extreme III, 8gb Sandisk cards. That's $50.00 total for all 3 or $16.67 for each!!!

That's after rebates of course!!!

I'm getting ready for my new 5D Mark II! Each 8gb card will hold approx. 400 RAW photos so these should be fine!

Adorama. They sold out quick though. They might still be taking orders though and just back ordering them and filling them as they come in stock.
