Jul 15, 2008 22:51 | #4 Having tried Volleyball a couple of times, I know it can be tough. I like both of your shots however, if I had to choose one it would be #2. Personally, I disagree about being better by having the whole body in the shot because then that would have required the subject to be smaller in the frame therefore you would lose some of the detail in his expression...IMO I like seeing the expressions and in the particular case his knees and below would not add anything....to each their own I guess

My first few tries had the shutter at around 1/1000 or faster, but sometimes it seemed a bit fake with the ball perfectly frozen. As a result, I've been trying to freeze the person as much as possible, but leaving the ball and maybe the swinging arm with a bit of motion blur to imply speed. My flickr

But at least with beach it's a bit easier as there are only 2 guys on each side and you kinda know who the ball will go to hehe
