Well, i bought a new laptop a few months ago, it has windows vista, old desktop has windows xp=faster. i noticed one thing, even though my camera is set to continuous numbering, on vista, it makes a new folder for every day, which starts at 001-XXX so i can have 5/21/08 and have 001-010, and 5/22/08 001-093

when i go to put all of the 5/21/08 and 5/22/08 into a "photography" folder, it stops and says "do you want to overwrite 5/21/08 001 with 5/22/08 001?

its not doing continuous numbering, on my old computer it would, the picture file would be IMG_1982, but on vista its just 001 for every folder.

so my question is, how can i change my vista to allow IMG_XXXX and be put in specified folders, instead of the daily folders that take forever to sort?

it doesnt let me use canon eos utility, says "camera not recognized" i have to use the microsoft one that comes on the puter, that only lets me download all the images on the card.

Most people using Vista - including myself - have given up on getting the EOS utility to work. I use the card reader and can now use either zoombrowser or lightroom to import and rename them.

With those apps you can set up the kind of thing you want to do.
