Ya know - I wonder if Canon fixed the red issue on the later batch of 5Ds....

That was one thing Mike was concerned about when he got his 5D but he told me he hasn't had an issue with the reds..

it's only in bright sunlight that it's an issue....then the reds turn pink or orange. In shade it does very well.

I've only had my 150-500 OS for one day, but the OS in this lens is just amazing. It has a small quirk in it though that some may find distracting. I was able to achieve shots at 1/25, 1/60, and similar that would have been one great big blur without OS. I haven't used a Bigma before but I don't see how Sigma will sell anymore of that lens. When a lens with similar IQ and AF speed, but now has OS is around the same price it seems like a no brainer to people buying a lens in this category. For people with Bigmas already that love them I can see how this is a big dilemma.

in my order of things (how I'd own them...and this may surprise some)

1Dmk3
40D (I need the options...htp...the 40D has and I love the colors in produces)
5D (I love the IQ & DOF, both are better than the 40D but red is my favorite color and I hate it when red is wrong)

but again, this is my personal preference

edit: I wanted to add that if I was getting paid to shoot action the list would be different with the M3 topping and the Mk2n as second.

I've really enjoyed reading through the discussion this morning. Another round of applause for the civility of the RRTP in a world of strong opinions and absolute statements.

I have no doubt that there's still a lot of capability in my 20D that I've not yet been able to take advantage of, but new body thoughts have been going through my mind for a while. As I'm not a professional, nor do I have any aspirations of becoming one, I don't need a 1 series camera. That said, the AF in the 1 series is quite a draw, and the feel in my hand of the 1Dmk3 is superb. I live in a climate where wet is an issue a significant part of the year, and I'd like to have more freedom to be out and about in it.

I'm curious to see what Canon will be coming out with next, but don't have any desire to be a test mule for a new body. I will be watching closely, though.

I had actually planned to go for a bit of a walk and shoot this morning, but there's enough low cloud cover/fog/mist that I had to cancel it. Every morning for quite some time has been great. The one that I had time to go shoot and it turns ugly. Things will be cleared up by noon, but that doesn't really do anything for my desire to catch some morning light.

I've never had an issue with color. I thought color had more to do with the lens than the camera. After all these colors are from an XT.

It will jump on you every once in a while. Almost like the gyro gets fooled or something. You will be composed on a subject, the OS is working fine, and then it jumps and locks back on. I haven't missed any shots due to it yet though as it is very quick to correct itself.

I could have sworn you bought the 5D along with your big printer...

You know David, I was thinking about that...how we probably all disagree on our choice for camera bodies (which is probably why we all own something different) but it is nice to be able to say what we like and dislike w/o people taking it as an attack.

UPS hasn't shown up here either Doesn't even say out for delivery... but it says due today... grr!

Considered it -- probably should have gone for it for the $350 or whatever it was rebate. There are a lot of things about the 5D that are appealing, but with my kids getting more and more into sports, and me finding that many of the things I get the biggest rush out of shooting include lots of motion, the 1 series AF just kept telling me to wait.
