I just googled the fire, it was apparently started by someone who was target practicing. Do people who accidentally start fires like this one get fined?

This is from Wikipedia regarding Johnny Cash....

In June 1965, his truck caught fire due to an overheated wheel bearing, triggering a forest fire that burnt several hundred acres in Los Padres National Forest (external link) in California. When the judge asked Cash why he did it, Cash said, "I didn't do it, my truck did, and it's dead, so you can't question it."[4] (external link) The fire destroyed 508 acres (2.06 km²), burning the foliage off three mountains and killing 49 of the refuge's 53 endangered condors (external link). Cash was unrepentant: "I don't care about your damn yellow buzzards." The federal government sued him and was awarded $125,127. Johnny eventually settled (external link) the case and paid $82,001. Cash said he was the only person ever sued by the government for starting a forest fire.[4] (external link)

I've led a sheltered life.... I have never been out west...

Yeah, me either...well technically about 25 yrs ago I was in California...

But come October time, I'll be in the Grand Canyon, and a couple of days in Vegas too...which I very much look forward to seeing.

Interesting... Too bad the Condors couldn't, you know, fly away from the fire....

This looks like a cold place to be during the winter.

It all depends on where you set the "cold" mark ;-)a

The farthest west I've ever been is Nashville Tennessee.... But I can say I've been to Europe... I was 11... but I've still been there... 9 day tour that took me to London and Paris and parts in between! :D

Apart from Nebraska (don't ask my why my uncle decided to live there!) I've never been anywhere in mid-america, let alone the bible belt...

Europe is easy to travel through once you're there, but I would like to go to South America some day.

I went as part of a school group to Europe... I'd like to make that trip again someday... BUT if I'm going to travel out of the country... My first stop is Australia!!!

oh yay, I just got my gear organized into the two pelicans. (except lighting gear and the battery chargers) (Vanna-Ed is displaying them for us)

IMAGE: http://lcimages.zenfolio.com/img/v2/p14219581-4.jpg

in the smaller carry bag I've got my two cameras with lenses attached (24-70 on one and 70-200 on the other) and the 16-35 as well as filters and batteries and cards and misc.
IMAGE: http://lcimages.zenfolio.com/img/v2/p48331612-4.jpg

in the other one, the rest of the lenses and tc's and flash, G9 and stuff. For the most part I won't need to bring two bags anymore (unless I'm birding) which will make things very nice. The shootsac will also fit in this bag. (I've owned it for a while and love it).
IMAGE: http://lcimages.zenfolio.com/img/v2/p435492546-5.jpg

opinions on the new one (Pelican PETBB PCS-180 D'Exec Series Pro Camera Tote Bag):

It's tall enough and wide enough for 2x 1 series cameras to fit with most lenses attached (except the telephoto primes...can't put the 300 f4IS on the camera in there but can easily store it where the 16-35 is).

The front of the bag opens and there are pouches in there that run across the bag but they are sewn down the middle so putting the filter pouches in there is impossible. I didn't like that.

It's heavy (even w/o stuff in it) so not optimum for a walk around bag but very nice for a day trip.

It's not large though so it makes good use of it's space.

Comes with 90 bazillion dividers of varying sizes...I can't even imagine using half...I put 2/3 of them in storage.

Overall it's exactly what I wanted for when I didn't need all my gear.

oh and this is Pacha, in the tamrac rolling bag that I'm getting rid of.

He did NOT want to get out and was very grumpy with me for insisting :) Now I've got to vacuum the bag.

We're always in such a rush to get from Point A to Point B, we really don't take the time to see what's in between. Heck, I'd love to explore Arizona, and it's just 100 miles east of here.

I love the Red leather coach and the new cat carrier. Cat's must be on earth to annoy people by sitting on the laundry, or the keyboard whilst you are trying to type, or on your report you just printed out, and don't bother with a newspaper.

thanks :)

and I forgot, the new extreme iii cards work fine...no issues during lens removal. I was worried since the extreme iii's are new technology...I'm glad they work fine.

I am organising a move from Boston to Australia and do that for a couple of years and enjoy it down under....then see where my itchy feet take me.

What good things are there to explore in Arizona?

We'll be spending a couple of nights in Phoenix too if i recall..
