Several people died in that fire, including one firefighter. Here's a Wiki article (external link)on the fire. It's reasonably accurate. The person who set the fire got off lightly and most of the blame for the destruction and deaths was placed on Cal Fire and their firefighting policies.

Blame for the Witch Creek fire of 2007 has been place on San Diego Gas and Electric for arcing powerlines that started the fire. This one's not over yet... The lawyers have started TV advertising for people to join the lawsuit.

The company I work for delivers hospital supplies, and it was not an easy task for our drivers to get the stuff through. They did, but it took a very long time. After the evacuations, there were lots of people who weren't able to make it into the office.

Sounds like things are getting smokey in Yosemite Valley... http://travel.latimes.com …elegraph-fire-yosem-2375/ (external link)

Wow, now that is a LOT of equpiment to someone with 1 lens!!

I did buy those kingston cards, when they were on sale. $18 for a 4GB and $32 for an 8Gb, i thought why not? So far so good...*knock on wood*

I'm sure it'll be fine. I'd never had any trouble with the silicon power cards before now either and I've faithfully used them for almost 4 years.

and lol on the equipment. I use it all except for the macro lens and the tubes...those I have guilt for buying (except the tubes were a gift from son).

Right now you need to find out about the rules...last year the judges decided that the only entries allowed would be farming related photos...no bigger than 8x10....seemed like a bit of a snapshot competition to me...I didn't bother entering. Especially after taking 5 firsts, a second and the Best of Show the previous year....I wasn't impressed with their choices.

The rules are the same. The print itself can be no larger 8x10. Having never entered anything like this before, I don't have a clue what to expect, what is 'worth it' or not. There are categories allowable this year which include Agriculture related, plants& flowers, animals, landscape-Scenic, people & portraits, sports, 2007 NC Mtn state fair, story telling sequence. and it can be color or b&w. Then there's a separate category for artistically or digitally enhance prince (fundamentally changing elements of composition (additions and/or deletions to photo) with a before and after picture framed together.

You seem like you're saying I shouldn't... but then I'm not even sure if I should...

Or you could do "poll" style in the general area. We love polls and it gets a wide range of suggestions.

this is what I think (like anyone asked)...it's a good ground for learning what others (not your friends) think about your photos. Even aside from the judging. One year we were guest exhibitors at the Marion county fair. We sat at a table (one of the days) and listened to what people had to say about our photos. It was very enlightening.

Thanks Lisa. I'm kinda interested in entering... and having no experience in this area, I wouldn't even know what makes a good compeition or not. Obviously some of you have entered in things like this before and have definite opinions.... I have no opinoin, I don't know what makes a good one vs. a bad one. So I appreicate hearing from others... I was hesitant to even ask about this here.... This is all new to me so I am still relatively clueless...

Good or bad enlightening? My sister is an artist and I attend some of her art shows and hang back just to listen what people have to say because they have no idea who I am, it is fascinating.

actually the best part of that exhibit was what one of the judges said when we were picking them up....she said "we repeatedly told people they could not vote for your photos but they did anyway and who could blame them". That was nice.
