Mooooooo evening, though I'm sure I've missed most everyone by now. This weekend was my 20th High School Reunion. A pretty good time, but most of the people I was most looking forward to seeing weren't able to make it. My wife and I did win an award, though -- High School Sweethearts. We started dating at the end of our Senior year. :D

Mo, sorry to hear your news. I hope things turn around.

and another tidbit...I learned today that hours of carrying the 1ds w/70-200 AND the M3 with the 400 AND my fully loaded purse, leaves me a cripply mess at the end of the day

I'm thinking that I need to do a lot more walking with a loaded camera bag on one shoulder and camera on the other, then mix in a few camera curls every now and then. Hmmmm. . . maybe that means I just need to go out walking and shooting more. ;)

More Olympics....

The last round and these have been fantastic, Cap'n. The duck butts one was a particular favorite.

okay these are some of my favorite shots from today

Looks like a fantastic event on all accounts, but I'm thinking I might be voting with Mike on this one. Great job, Permie.

I will, however, give extra credit to the Cap'n for his Salmon shot.

Break out the king crab....we can have a party!

King crab is good, but Dungeness crab is really where it's at. And I'm not just saying that because it was dinner tonight, either. ;)

Hey, can any of you computer gurus help me out here... What's the difference between a PC card and an Express card?

My new laptop has one of those built-in "5-in-1" card readers that accepts everything except Compact Flash. I have a PC card adapter that will allow a CF card to be inserted in a computer, but according to the documentation that came with my new laptop, it takes an Express card. Apparantly PC cards and Express cards are not interchangeable... I do have a USB CF card reader but I want to leave that with my desktop. I guess I'm just going to have buy another card reader.

So, in case you missed it, I bought a used 1DMkIi yesterday at the POTN BBQ. We will see how I like it after a few days of using it this week.......

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

After some quick reading (http://www.expresscard.org/web/site/cons_faq.jsp (external link)), it looks like you can get an expresscard CF reader, but that the technology is not backwards compatible with the older PC cards. :( There are a few consumer friendly parts of that site that can give you more information.

Congrats, Mo. I'm in love with my MkIII.:D The viewfinder is amazing to look through, and I'm really impressed with the color and detail of the images I've been able to capture so far.

And here are the four images I think I've decided to enter into the Fair. Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated. Deadline is Wednesday noon, but I'm probably going to deliver things by Monday afternoon.

The possible categories are Photojournalism, Portrait, Nature, Children, Animals, Creative Color, Monochrome, Photo Travel, Washington, Humor, Human Interest, and General.

1. Great Blue Heron Profile (Animals)

Before I made the Big Committment, I wanted to see how I could handle that big camera with heavy lenses, etc. Plus this was fairly cheap for a 1D body and it holds it resale value well so I could always sell it if I want to upgrade. It does have alearning curve although I think I about have it down after today.

The weight is definitely something to be aware of. I'm going to see if I can go for a walk with the 100-400 attached tomorrow and see how that goes. The 24-105 has spent most of the time on the camera, with a few exceptions for playing around. I have noticed that my 24-105 seems smaller than when it was on the 20D, and I really like the field of view I'm getting from the 1.3 sensor.

I went right to the meat...put the 70-200, then the 100-400 on mine for 99% of all the photos I took today. Then I ended with the 24-105 and it sure felt light.

I think I would have looked suspicious walking around the Pike Place Market with the 100-400 mounted.

I just realized how late it is -- off to bed so I can get some work done in the morning and then get my shots down to the Fair tomorrow.

Dooood, not bad. #2 is good enough to move you ahead of Puddles salmon shot and into a tie with your one of your earlier shots for a solid second place!:D

Great, so my salmon shot gets the bronze? Fine.

Woolburr wrote in post #6084038 (external link)
I wonder if it just doesn't ship well or something. The smoked stuff is what has that funny taste/texture thing going on. The only other salmon I've had is the stuff in a can...with chunks of bone in it....nasty.

Then you haven't had real salmon. Smoked salmon, especially done the way my shot depicts, is melt in your mouth heavenly. Any salmon that is eaten more than ten miles and two days from where or when it was caught isn't going to be good, IMWO.

T.D. wrote in post #6084044 (external link)
You haven't had good, quality stuff then Wool.

I was unloading salmon boats from the time I was about 10 on. I spent years taking it for granted (along with all other seafood).

Same here. I was helping my dad deep sea fish when I was a little guy. I got spoiled from all the fresh fish we ate. Restaurant seafood just isn't the same.

DAVID: All those shots are keepers. Good luck at the Fair.

So true... That's why I need to move to somewhere closer to the salmons ;-)a
