Thanks Harm.

I guess it is the "redness" of the hibicus that makes it really stand out well.

...Yeah, it takes a while to get used to hauling the heavier gear but trust me, you do get used to it. You may collapse in a heap at the end of the day though

and thanks re: the photos!

I agree, I much prefer dungeness crab over king crab. The flavor (fresh off the ships and still alive before you cook it) is (for me at least) much different. Seems like king crab is not as sweet and a little more mushy (and by sweet I don't mean sugary...I just can't think of the word I want).

These are gorgeous. If you don't win anything, the judges are twits.

I guess we'll find out this weekend how much I want to collapse at the end of the day.

And I'll be happy to get something selected to exhibit -- we already know that the judges can be twits. ;)

i believe pc cards are wider and skinner than a express card what laptop did you get

Gateway ML6732. I know... That probably doesn't tell you much. Pentium Dual core, 3 GB RAM, 320Gb HD, Windows Vista Home Premium.

After some quick reading (http://www.expresscard.org/web/site/cons_faq.jsp (external link)), it looks like you can get an expresscard CF reader, but that the technology is not backwards compatible with the older PC cards. :( There are a few consumer friendly parts of that site that can give you more information.

Different size, pinout and performance. The PCI Express is a direct tap into the computer's main bus, sorta like CardBus on steroids. And it comes in 2 flavours, with different numbers of pins/contacts. IIRC you can use the smaller-pin version devices in the bigger-pin slot, but that's merely a vague recollection (ExpressCard 34 vs 54)

Thanks for the information. It's obvious I can't use my old PC card-CF adapter with this computer. Now all I have to determine is which is less expensive; another USB CF card reader or a Express Card-CF adapter...

I think I would have looked suspicious walking around the Pike Place Market with the 100-400 mounted.

Your comment brings up an interesting point. You hear many stories about photographers being told they couldn't shoot somewhere in the interests of security, yet I've discovered transportation security seems to be randomly applied. Saturday after our club's shoot, I wandered over to the San Diego Amtrak Depot to see if I could get some shots of the trains there. The platform area is open to the street (partly because two different commuter trains stop there) and I was able to walk on to the platform and right up to the trains, one Coaster and two different Amtrak trains. I shot several pictures of the trains and then walked away without anyone saying a thing to me.

Either the man is on drugs, or not awake, or both?

Yeah, I seriously doubt the same would happen with me....being of Indian ethnicity, having a large camera, walking into a train depot with a backpack too, i am sure i'd get stopped...

After the 7/7 bombings in london (i was on all the stops too just days before they all got hit!), I used to go to work on the Metro in Newcastle (tube/subway/underground), and having a backpack full of my footy gear, people were just staring at me, wondering if i would "pull" on a strap hanging down from my backpack...mind you, noone sat next to me either on the buses etc. That was fine for me, more space for me to sit :)

on the other hand, indian looking man travelling alone, and a lot of times to the US....never got stopped by the security people at the airports, being Wash Dulles, JFK, Paris, Amsterdam or Heathrow...

Pink isn't for everyone....hehehe

and as for that statement...about the people here...the folks that need to know what that meant have been around long enough to understand exactly why I said it.
