So it was dark and stormy last night, and there was a hint of a thunderstorm....

so i though i'd set up the camera to take a shot in the dark to capture a bolt of ye-olde lightening...

What is the best way to capture a shot of lightening?

I had a low iso (100) on a long timer (25s) but then for more light, i had a slightly higher iso (320) for about 15s time...manual focus mode at infinity pointing to the sky....

Am I doing that right or wrong? (needless to say, the lightening was around, but no in front of me, so I didn't get a shot)

and another tidbit...I learned today that hours of carrying the 1ds w/70-200 AND the M3 with the 400 AND my fully loaded purse, leaves me a cripply mess at the end of the day

I did some B/W metallic shots a while back from my DC trip They came out stunningly!

I want to see some more of those.

And John -- there are very few express card devices out there... my next laptop (the IBM T61) has both the PCMCIA (PC Card) and the Express Card slot

Photographs are records of life. Pity they don't make music when you put them in a record player. :p

Wool, did your metallic prints, print slightly darker than your regular prints? (the one I ordered did...not a lot, but there is a difference)

I had one of the shots printed both ways...I don't see any discernible difference in the light/dark....but there is one heck of a difference in the WOW factor.
