Their judging there is really interesting. Last year they seemed to favor heavily processed shots. This year not so much.

Not really all the interesting. It is easily defined by drug usage :lol:.

I have all but given up entering photo contests, there is no brightline upon which I can compete against. It isn't worth my time and effort to get images ready for contests when it really comes down to a couple of judges closing their eyes and choosing, seemingly at random.

It sure would be nice if they gave some judging descriptions and reasoning behind their decisions.

All that is not meant to belittle Scott's honorable mention, CONGRATS SCOTT!!!! Though not my personal favorite of your entered shots.

I agree --- and I really don't like that photo... but hey, what do I know?

PPS currently has a contest with Oregon Wild that has a rule:

Entrants grant Oregon Wild permission to use their photo(s) in any publication, marketing or fundraising materials and on the Oregon Wild web site. All photos used will receive captioning where allowed.

So basically.... Oregon Wild gets free photos for their marketing material! Some pro-landscape/nature photographers were mentioning how Oregon Wild approached them to enter the contest, but these guys make their living off selling usage rights to their images - why would they want to sign a blank usage rights away? I could see letting it go onto their website, etc - but to give them free reign isn't smart...

But like Riley said - not worth the time ---- look at the state/county fair, judges can't determine the worth of a print, the open market purchasing prints that appeal to them determines the worth.

Am I the only one who finds it fascinating that Poppie Guy was also in that image?! Foreshadowing?
