well, I do not know what kind of ship this is. I was not really comfortable taking this pic since i really had no "real" reason to be there! I had to drop some stuff off near the base, and my stickers were still good, so I drove around a bit looking.

Wikipedia. (external link) Started looking for destroyers, then cycled through the other warship classes. The Mesa Verde is one of the newest amphibious transport docks (external link) in the San Antonio class. (external link)

Wikipedia. Started looking for destroyers,

Thanks. I guess you need to know what you're looking for to start the search. That's usually my problem trying to ID birds! :D If you had a # for the ship, is there a dBase for them?

I may have had my Ap to high....trying not to blow out the sky.

Ask yourself, "What's most important in the shot"? That's why I shoot RAW & generally use this:
Need an exposure crutch?

thank you for the link. I will read up on this much more! I thought....as a general rule, you meter the sunny blue sky on sunny days? So, I metered the sky, just above the horizon and it indicated a correct exposure.

...and it indicated a correct exposure.

Yes, a correct exposure for that blue sky, which is not the subject of the shot, right?
