I took a few pics of a friend's new toy..this fabulous "Spyder". Now..I need to crop, get rid of the background, and make his new toy stand out!! I am just familiarizing myself with the new camera, and shouldn't overwhelm myself with the software...but I would like to know (before installing) , if Photoshop CS3 can do these things? If not..is there a different program to transform this pic into something worthy of framing? Thanks in advance to those who can offer advice!!

I think it looks good as-is. The surroundings provide a sense of scale without being distracting.

Really? I guess I was hoping for something a little more artistic, or futuristic like this thing is. Thanks BillMarks.

CS3 will do all of what you mention and much more. Here's a very quick edit with the background cropped and cloned. It's a bit rough but you get the idea.

You could also select the motorcycle and put it on a more exotic background but the grass growing up at the wheels will make that more difficult.

Here's a link to a thread that I started on a truck picture edit that I did a while back. I had a pretty ugly background (scroll down - you'll see the original image) and photoshopped it using Elements 6 in about 30 minutes...
It's really pretty easy.

Actually, it's Photoshop Spcae Edition. It has a built in Laser tool for super realistic looking ray gun effects.

Listen, Photoshop CS3 is probably excessive for your needs. Not to mention excessively expensive. Photoshop Elements 6 is available for a fraction of the price, and will achieve everything that's been discussed above.

But, if you're loaded, and/or are planning to pursue this kind of thing professionally, by all means go for CS3.

Or, look at Gimp (there's a sticky at the top of this forum) which is free and very powerful, by all accounts.

Had a few spare minutes so thought I'd have a really quick play:

IMAGE NOT FOUND

Fullsize image would have been better/easier. Could have taken more care cutting around the bike, and the front left tyre looks flat where the grass was. Not happy with the perspective either, but you can see the intent :)
Quite happy with it actually, considering the time spent on it. Never tried that before.

PS - I used GIMP (external link) (free!)

Not happy with the perspective either,

Probably mostly because the "reflection" of the rear tire doesn't touch his real world counterpart ;)

I see that nice and straight street behind you and think to myself, why no panning shot? that'd be perfect for that.
