Was going to out to find stuff to photograph Sunday, but needed brunch first, and a few beers, which led to more beer, and there were various people I know out on the patio, so I got to have some not terribly serious fun shooting against a bright sky (I've mostly just shot people indoors). The people at the next table had a D40 and D70 with them, so there was some good friendly conversation about the relative merits of Canon and Nikon.

The post-processing was done in RawTherapee, which I just downloaded recently and am quite impressed with. Yeah, it's a bit overdone and dark, but I think it shows the versatility of RawTherapee as more than a simple RAW converter.

Thanks. I agree that 3 (and 6) could use some individual tweaking, especially in the background. The "local contrast" adjustment seems to have given a bit of a singed look to the sharp edges against the bright sky. 1 & 2 seem far stronger for not having that aspect to deal with. Definitely not used to dealing with this sort of dynamic range, but it was a fun experiment, not least due to the copious amounts of beer consumed.

It was all done in RawTherapee (external link), which you can download for free for Windows or Linux, but . If you have that, I'll see if I can figure out how to send the settings I used for #2 (everything else was done as an individually tweaked version of that one saved setting). Feel free to message me about it, but I'm no expert.
