Very quickly though there are two methods, plugging a Canon battery pack CP-E4 into the 580EX, or with "fake batteries". Fake batteries are just objects the size of batteries that let power from an external battery into your flash through the same place you usually put AAs. A 430 can't take a CP-E4, only a 550 or 580 V1/2. Professional wedding photographer, solution architect and general technical guy with multiple Amazon Web Services certifications.
