Does anyone have a good way to mount a speedlite and a skyport transmitter at the same time? I figured i'd put it on the top of the flash head, with velcro, but then i'd have velcro on the transmitter hotshoe so I couldn't use the transmitter that way. Then I thought maybe the side of the flash, but it could fall off, and from my experimentation it seems that you really have to keep the transmitter and receiver aerials both pointed up for maximum reliability.

Does anyone have a good way to do this?

I would suggest letting it dangle but I tried that and lost it on the reception hall floor on Saturday. Fortunately I was able to walk around and find it...right next to the head table.

I'm going to try a little tiny square of velcro on the top of the transmitter and another little tine square on the side of my camera next. I use industrial strength velcro and that stuff hooks like mad, so I don't think I'll have problems with it falling off. I also think the Skyports are strong enough that they don't have to be on the absolute top of the camera or flash to get good reception. If I loose a couple feet, I don't care -- I doubt I'll be come close to maxing out the range anytime soon anyway.

If that doesn't work, I may just gaffer tape the crap out of it somewhere before each session.

Ok Tim here's what I quickly worked up just now. I'll see how it works in the field but I can tell you right now I shook the camera both up and down more violently than I ever would through the course of a day, even setting it down harder than I normally do and the velcro didn't even make that peeling off sound, so I know it's almost has to be secure enough for a day's shoot. I wrapped the sync cord around the transmitter to hopefully prevent the test button from getting bumped. To hold it in place (I think), I pulled it as taught as I could and secured it with a miniature strap-tie. I'm hoping the tension isn't putting too much stress on the cord's miniphone plug for the long term. Downside is there's no immediate access to the buttons for channels, but the groups can still be switched as long as you remember up is actually down. :D

Here are some pics:

Tim, as discussed, I use velcro spots on the side of the flash, same spot as would be used for a receiver if used off camera. It doesn't look very secure but its pretty hard to pull the velcro spots apart.

I don't often use mine in this manor, but I do like to be able to use the ST-E2 for it's AF assist beam in low light but also remote triggering the flashes so I moded mine to take the transmitter on top.

Are you using a flash bracket? If so, how about getting another coldshoe and mounting the Tx unit on that? Not sure how well this is going to work with Skyport, though, because of the way it would be oriented in the shoe.

Thanks for the ideas guys! I don't use a flash bracket, it's lying unused in the back of the cupboard.
