Could anyone recommend a tripod quick release plate that will mate with my gripped 5D and Really Right Stuff angle bracket (for the B-87 Portrait RRS flash bracket)??? I'd be using it on a 488RC2 ball head...

It would REALLY be helpful if anyone has one that they'd recommend via a B&H link... I'll be going to NYC next week and plan to stop in there for some goodies and the quick release plate is high on my priority list

Thanks!!!

I have the 488RC2 ball head and also use the RRS L-plate on my cameras. What I did was remove the RC2 clamp from the 488 head and replace it with a Wimberley clamp.

Instead of the Wimberley clamp, you can also use one of the RRS clamps or any other Acra-Swiss compatible clamps sold by other makers.

So how did you get around mounting a white barrel lens on a tripod if you have that Wimberley clamp? It doesn't appear to allow you to thread a fastener into say a 70-200's ring clamp? Do you swap out the tripod clamp?

I don't understand your question. Please elaborate. I have a Wimberley plate mounted on all my tripod mountable lenses. They mate very well with the Wimberley clamp.

You have to have a Quick release plate for the 70-200's tripod ring as well. Just like you have for your Camera Body. Like this LP-41 (external link)

Also Kirk makes several clamps as well, but B&H does not carry Kirk I believe.

I just looked at the B87 flash bracket. How do you have it mounted right now? It would appear to me that you must be using it with a plate for your 70-200 right now. Is that the case? If yes, then get a clamp like PacAce suggested and remove the RC2 clamp.

Ahhh, this answered my question.

Thanks!
