RAW files: which program to use?

Hi,

I own a G3 and I want to use the RAW file format some more.

The only thing is that the software provided by Canon (File Viewer Utility) is too slow for working with RAW files.

Who knows which program or plugin I should use to have fun with RAW files??

I already have Photoshop 7.0 and Paint Shop Pro 8.0.

Thanks!

Hi Ralph,

welcome to the forum!

I find BreezeBrowser quite helpful ... you can download a trial version that has some limitations but allows you to judge the capability of the software.

Apart from being a picture organizer, it allows you to do batch processing of RAW pictures. It uses the standard Canon RAW program (meaning that it will not work if you don't have ZoomBrowser) installed but allows additional parameters that can give better colour rendition (e.g. 'combined' mode).

Best regards,
Andy

some cameras, some lenses,
and still a lot of things to learn...
(so post processing examples on my images are welcome :D)

BreezeBrowser and Downloader Pro are two of the most useful programs out there for digital photographers. Both do exactly what I need. Very powerful and flexible utilities particularly since it now supports Pro1 RAW file conversion.

I cannot imagine trying to get by with the clunky Zoombrowser.

I have used Breeze Browser to proceed my G2 RAW files for 2 years and just bought C1 to process these and found that the C1 is much better in the following regards :

i) Higher resolution;
ii) Much better auto white balance, especially for in-door photos taken in Chinese restaurants which use heavily yellow cast lightings;
iii) Flexible controls available for tint, white balance, exposure, and color saturation;
iv) Controls available for cropping
v) More vivid color (not just heavier color saturation) achieved.

I think the recent upgrade of C1 to process G2 RAW files is a big news for G-series users, and I recommend all those using G-series to try the C1, a trial version is available on C1's web site.
