Okay, not sure if I have the right forum, but this is for a gig where I've been asked to shoot a pole dancing fitness instructor. Promo shots for an upcoming event. She would like shots of her in various positions, and some 'action" shots as well.

My gear includes Canon 5D, 24-105L, two AB800's with large softboxes, reflector kit, and 430EX flash.

My questions:

- Lighting - the room is fairly bright with several windows. I was thinking of rim lighting the instructor with the two softboxes off to each side, and there will be plenty of bounce in the room to fill in shadows. Any suggestions on other lighting setups that might fit the subject matter?

- Action Shots - I have very little experience with 2nd curtain sync. Could I drag the shutter to, say, 1/4 second, relatively narrow aperture of around f/16, and pop my Bee's to acheive the frozen action type shot. Is this even advisable in this kind of environment? I've only really done this successfully in low light event shooting.

- Anything else I should consider? I don't exactly have a way to practice before showing up to start shooting.

Thanks.

You'll want shadows as well as highlights to create shape and emphasize muscle tone. Instead of rim lighting from both sides IMO you'd be better off using one strobe to power-light the subject, using the second to rim-light from the shadow-side and then adjusting the shutter-speed to get the ambient to the right level of fill.

Second curtain sync is a pretty time-consuming & hit-and-miss affair even for those with plenty of experience. Give it a try but don't over-use it and don't rely on it to make your action shots interesting. Angle and composition will be much more important.

Can you even do second curtain sync with AB's ??

I think my 40D can, but my earlier cameras could only do it with speedlites. 5D might be in the same boat.
