I shoot in a nightclub regularly and unfortunately I was mugged last Saturday night and the bottom of my 580 was loosened considerably. Probably broken screws inside I think.
The flash still works ok, just very wobbly on hotshoe.
Has anybody had the base section replaced on a 580ex11 and if so how much where you charged.

That sucks, take a weapon with you. Lucky you still have your stuff.

I'm getting one of these (external link), that might work well for you too. Double check it works with the 580 II, that's for the 580 V1. Otherwise parts from Canon generally aren't toooo expensive.

First off, are you okay?

Did they get any of your gear?

Here is a site that shows how to replace the shoe on a 580EX. It took me longer to find the right part number than it did to actually replace it. Follow the directions and no worries.

I now keep an extra shoe around for the next time.

Rick
