What non-photography item or service have you traded photography services for?

I'd be interested to see how people are making the most out of their photography without necessarily getting compensated with cash.

I've considered rent before, but never really went well with that project.

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

I'm bartering now for cash plus a lawn care contract as part of a marketing video project. Some previous bartering; payment + 2 yr health club membership, payment + advertising space, deck construction services, and various merchandise. I like to barter as long as its something that I was going to buy anyway.

What I like even better, is when I get a client that asks me to shoot some products for them, then they don't want the products back. Unfortunately, its usually stuff that I don't need anyway (last one was a baby stuff (crib, bottles & sterilizer, mobile, blankets, bumper, etc. I still have this stuff stored in my studio! - free for anyone thats willing to pick it up)

Weapons and related equipment. All done legally before someone starts wondering.

Trades can work out nicely for all involved if its something you can use, and its extra work, not something that should be putting food on the table.

I tried to bounce my flash off the ceiling once. Left a mark on the ceiling and broke my flash.

I've shot for restaurant-owner friends before, so it would have to be food.

A few times, it was for the restaurant menu itself.. and someone had to eat all the dishes they cooked just for the shoot. I became fat quickly.

Haircuts. I get my haircuts done by a lady in the neighborhood. The other day she needed some pictures of her son, so I traded the photography work for some haircuts.

I've also traded family portrait session for the installation of a hot water heater.

What else,,, hmmm.... oh, I've gotten free ad space in a ballet company program for their productions for providing images for their advertising the productions. And ad space in a high school football program for giving them images to use at the school.

I have really never traded for anything--- I typically am all business with my photography work and have done nothing but paid gigs. But I took my kids (4 of them) golfing yesterday and paid $150 for the six of us to golf and was thinking of trying to get the manager to trade me for a few photos of his place.
I am going to have to start doing my trading---it is a good idea.

BBQ from my favorite joint. Im working on doing trade work with a great tattoo artist right now. I will be shooting some promo shots for a b-horror film pretty soon. The girl who is doing it has the keys and access to a local movie theatre. My payment? Access to the theatre for a shoot when i need it. Kind of excited about that one.

I'm finishing up a job for a local candy, chocolate, and ice cream factory. Between my partner and I, it's "no sweets left behind!" (though walking out of the store with giant ziplock bags of everything they sell can be a little embarrassing/empowering).
