I haven't traded anything yet, but am signing up to be a member of a time bank (http://www.timebanks.org/how-it-works.htm (external link))

Basically, you volunteer your time to do something you're good at (photographing school kids, fixing a deck, driving an old lady to the dentist...) and those hours add up. Later, you can ask other members for an equal amount of time doing those things you aren't so good at (landscaping, carrying heavy stuff when you move, etc). So in principle you can put in some time and help somebody out and then later on, when the need arises, get some help in return. You aren't exactly trading for a specific service, but someone other than the person you did the photos for can give your kids french lessons, for example. I haven't tried yet, but from what I hear the program is pretty successful. And selfishly, maybe a way to get some word-of-mouth advertising. :)

I've gotten very cheap plumbing after I photographed a friend of a friends wedding very cheaply, and i've done portraits and gotten more plumbing. And i'll do more. An ex wedding customer gives me good deals on building work. And I have an outstanding offer from my chiropractor, portraits for chiropractic care.

Maybe you should re-evaluate your diet instead. :D :p

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

I made a trade for sex once, well sort of. I delivered the pics but they never delivered as promised. So I was screwed.

Haha, very funny :p He replaced the guttering over about 1/3 my house for $100 over the cost of materials.

I have problems taking $$ from my friends too... The problem is they don't realize that a "shoot" isn't necessarily just shooting a digital camera, downloading the cards to a PC, and uploading them to Walmart or sending the images over by email. If I created the images I want them to look the best they possibly can (to my eye at least--sometimes I think they probably couldn't tell the difference). Anyway all the sorting, post-processing, printing, etc etc can really rack up to hours especially when you're not necessarily that efficient at it. Nonetheless, it's still fun! It's hard to know what to trade for though, so I usually request a six of Stella :).

You too, Stickman?!

I've been working the trade for 14 years now.

FUN! Especially now! :D

It works out pretty nicely, and I agree, its a rather specialized market, and its a good time to be in it.

Vacation Resort time .... took some shots of the resort we stayed at a few years ago. Got home, processed them, put them online, called the resort, and sold the pics to them in exchange for 5 free nights.
