i know some have constant monitoring of ambient room lighting, and help to compensate for this in the monitor display. sometimes i'm on the computer in the day, with just windowlight, other times it is ceiling light, and with or without a lamp that is on my desk.
also, which are expandable, like to get the monitor calibrator, and then add on to that platform with a printer calibrator, scanner calibration, etc.

I've been very happy with the Pantone Huey. Works (with VISTA), simple to install and has ambient light adjustment. Fairly cheap. I actually ordered mine from Office Depot and got free shipping, like next day.

My spyder3pro does that for my 2 monitors. it has an external sensor that reads ambient lights.

Do you have to use that feature? Reason being, Im thinking of getting the spyder for my laptop. Sometimes I use it at the desk, other in the living room in front of the TV, ect

u don't have to use the light sensor, u can disable the light detection.
The spyder3pro allow u to calibrate with or without ambient light detection.
It works on CRT, LCD, projector, laptops.
