Splish Splash

So I decided to drive a bit to take some shots today on my lunch. I'm getting a bit bored of going to the same places all of the time. I know that noon is not the best time to shoot, but I do what I can when I can.

I don't normally shoot people, but there is a cool new water park and I just had to take some pictures. The second image is of the Port Moody Pier during low tide. To the right was a very large expanse of mud that I'm sure looks beautiful when the tide is high.

This is exactly what I'm looking for when I post my images so thank you very much. I think I was trying to squeeze something out of nothing with this one, and I didn't quite pull it off. When I pick a location to shoot I use Google Maps first, and on the satellite image this spot looked very nice. When I got there the tide was completely out, and I just can't get fired up over mud I should have focused more on the water park and kids today.

Here is a wonderful image of mud so you can see what it looked like on the right side of the pier (which was the focus of my trip in the first place). The left side of the pier held nothing of interest for me at all as it was scenic hills with industrial sites ruining the view.

Thank you DS. I'm a little confused though as to what you mean when you ask where I was going with number 2. I guess presenting landscapes that are interesting to look at, and make you want to look at them again is where I'm trying to go with the majority of my images (I primarily shoot city/landscapes). I don't think that I achieved that at this location today.

I will come back when the tide is high to shoot it again so I can shoot the scenery to the right of the pier, as I think it's much nicer.

I think #2 has a lot of potential. Maybe just the pier and its reflection? B&W?

It would be better with a tighter angle though.

Here's a quick conversion. Not sure if the image as a whole inspires me to do much more with it. I think this is one of those "try again later" times.

I saw a lot of places near Anchorage as we were on the train to Whittier that looked a lot like your #3 shot. It was very interesting for someone who had never seen anything like it before. You should have walked out to get a better shot of the waterfowl. I suspect that you might sink up to your ears if you actually tried it.

I think that the engineer in me led to a different sort of attraction for #2 -- it appears that the difference between high and low tide is really huge there. I found myself studying the high and low water marks on the pier. I was also drawn in by all of the crustaceans on the posts. I think that your images are very good at ferreting out interest hidden in ordinary things.

LOL you are right. That would have pretty much written off me going back to work in the afternoon

You are also right about the tides here. They range from ~2ft. to ~15ft. so you can get yourself into some tight spots along the coast if you aren't aware of them.
