So far Im impressed! IS is amazing, I didnt think it would have this large of an effect. I find myself able to take clean shots at 1/10 @ 200mm if I kneel and brace myself. 1/60 @ 200mm is no sweat at all. Is the IS on all IS lenses as loud as it is on this lense? It doesnt bother me but I was suprised by how well I can hear it, much louder than the USM focusing on my lenses.

Heres a 100% crop of my wifes right eye at 200mm. EXIF intact.

So far from what Ive seen this lense is AMAZINGLY sharp. My 50mm 1.8 is pretty sharp and this thing blows it out of the water.

Im still on the wall about the reach, I havent had a chance to walk outside and test it out, that will come sunday since we have a trip to the woodland park zoo planned.

Btw the battery grip makes the XTi feel 1000x better.

Dang thats a sharp lens. I'm kind of surprised at the narrow DOF though. The eyebrow is OOF but the lashes are razor sharp. Thats tight.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

I was right at MFD and 200mm, the other eye was slightly out of focus since her head was tilted. You can even see her contact in her eye.

Yep, the IS noise is normal since the mechanism is actually moving glass around.

And yes, this lens is razor sharp. I'm amazed at the pics that I get out of mine. Awesome that we could see her contact. Enjoy the great lens.

This should confound those who say the f/4 IS is crap at MFD beyond 135mm.

Sorry I'm on my crappy company supplied laptop the moment at.... what PPor in camera settings was done to that shot. There has been at least some sharpening added.

btw.. I also have the f4 IS...

PS... I almost never look at "how sharp my lens is" shots since very few are posted without some sort of sharpening having been done to them which makes it impossible to get an idea of what is the lens and what is the PP.

On a 40D, no shot is "sharp" straight out of the camera, due to the strong AA filter.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

I find my 17-55 reponds very well to sharpening, whereas the improvements to the 70-200 and 85 prime are only marginal.

If I forget to sharpen the 70-200 pics then it doesn't make a huge deal of difference.

Yes, it's the same with my Magic Drainpipe, any sharpening makes the image look false and over sharpened.

Image was shot with whatever the XTi standard picture style settings are, I believe default in camera sharpening is set to 2 in that?

I don't own the 40D
