sometimes it can take me 5 tries to get a long exposure right, first one could be brighter, or theres a car that came into the lens at the last few seconds.

im running about a 20% keeper rate on most situations, some are 95%, it all depends on what im doing

somewhere around 1% portfolio pics, 5-10% nice pics and 90% technical keepers. So it seems I perform worst then the cameras. Where do i signup for an upgrade ? :p

Whats your keep rate?

About 6 to 10 a year. But then again, my photography is for me, printed and framed by me, for my walls.

I should note that it has been 6 to 10 a year since I got my 10D, 5 years ago. Also, this year's 6 to 10 now are much better than 5 years ago, and they come from a much larger pool.

Unrelated - but noticing your avatar - my first car was a 2 tone green 53 Chev!

Well, I just got a new 40D about two months ago. Last weekend I went to a FCA Motocross camp and my keeper rate was horrible. Well composed images but technically not there. After reading so many people complain about their 40D I bet I got a bad one:D It sure can't be that I suck:oops:My best keeper rate is soccer games and it is ~20-25%. I sure hope I get better at this before the I wear this camera out.

Define keeper. It all depends on what your are shooting for. When I shoot for a client, I try for 40 to 50 shots that are presentable that I think make my work stand out from the rest of what they usually get, of which only a few are really neat captures. But often my best captures aren't of the main person they are looking for, and they run a basic stock image from the other 45 I provided.

Technical keepers is a relatively meaningless term. I just doesn't indicate at all that you captured anything special. Technical keepers are great for family and person shots. Then the subject usually is compelling to the shooter, even if the rest of the world wouldn't get it - which is perfectly fine. But to say you are getting say 50% technical keepers means nothing really. I would rather have a less then perfect image of a great subject then a perfect image of nothing. Just my bent. Usually if keeper rate is too low, your shooting way too fast.
