Thanks! Excuse me for the newb question but what is the difference between the AC powered and the battery powered receiver? I'll be using this for my 20D and my 580EX.

The AC powered needs to be plugged into a 110V outlet. They are desinged for use with studio lights, since the lights also need to be plugged into something.

The battery powered receiver is more of a universal unit, much more convenient to use with battery powered flashes.

You'll want to get the battery powered ones.

There is only one place to purchase that I know of - www.alienbees.com (external link)

Prices are listed there and you can check shipping as well.

Yes, they work with the 430EX with the addition of a hot-shoe/PC unit since the 430EX does not have a native external cable capability.

They have no ties to ETTL whatsoever. You have to use them with manual mode.

I received my Cybersyncs a couple of weeks ago. Once I finally figured out that I needed the cable from http://www.flashzebra.com/wizardcables/0016.shtml (external link) to go from the receiver to my Sunpak 383 I was in business.

The Cybersyncs work fantastic as I'm sure you've already noticed from the above reviews.

I have found an additional use of my Cybersync receiver and Flashzebra cable that I didn't even think of before - long range remote for my camera.

I have a Rebel XT. If I plug the cable end that normally goes into my flash sync port into my cable release port on the XT, I have a long distance shutter release.

I have RC-1 and RC-5, but I have found they don't have enough range for long distance group shots (that I'm in). This gives me a 400 ft or so range now.

The only downside is that my XT defaults to the 9 second countdown when I actuate the shutter in this fashion. :( Still a nice feature though.

I was able to find an adapter end for the cords that came with the Cybersync at Radio Shack that let me get them connected to my Sunpaks. Just a heads up for anyone that doesn't want to order the cords or needs to get it going in a hurry.

What are my options for using my Sekonic 358 wirelessly?

I know about buying an extra transmitter, but what are my ways of avoiding paying the extra 60 bucks since my 358 already has the PW transmitter in it already.

Use PW's. ;)

Just take the transmitter off of your camera and hold it in your hand. There is no real reason you need to buy a second transmitter, other than a back-up and convenience.

Just use the flash option on your meter. Push the button on the 358 and then push the test button on the transmitter. As long as you trip the flash with the test button before a certain amount of time has passed, it will meter the flash. No wires required.

It should explain this in your L-358 manual. The only pitfall of this is if there are other people using flashes/strobes in the area and your meter picks those up. I just do 2-3 readings to make sure I get a consistent reading to know that my flash/strobe is what was metered.

No - you have to upgrade to the Pocket Wizards - they do everything.
