Help me ID this little bird. I have a good idea of what it is but wanted to see what everybody thinks. Sorry for the bad photos they're a little OOF. Thanks for looking.

This is the sort of shot that would be a nightmare for me because the background is fantastic and the perch is excellent, yet it appears that the focus is on the foreground leaves rather than the bird. I've taken photos like this when shooting in a non "spot" mode and have ripped my hair out because this is really an excellent shot "if" the subject was in focus. I congratulate you on capturing what you did.

As for the identification, it appears to be some sort of a Grosbeak, but I'll leave that up to people who are much more qualified at identifications.

I would "love" to have seen these shots with subject in focus, but like the experience in any event. Thanks for sharing!

Well, I'm probably way off base but I think it looks like a female Painted Bunting, a beautiful bird regardless of what it is...;)

Thanks Norm, They looked good on camera but I was very disappointed when I downloaded them to my PC. I had my camera set to spot metering but my AF was going crazy. I did get one "decent" shot however.

Thanks downywp, That's what I was thinking. I spotted the male around there last week.:)

Thanks Chuck for the ID confirmation. I need to head out there and get more shots.
